Dr. Zulfiqar Haider, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has proposed that the government intends to withdraw from managing Hajj arrangements.
During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs, held on Tuesday and chaired by Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman, Dr. Haider provided an update on the current Hajj preparations.
He explained that the ministry plans to reduce the government’s direct involvement in Hajj management, with the possibility of private operators taking over these responsibilities in the future. Dr. Haider highlighted the government’s intention to transfer the Hajj arrangements to private operators by next year, contingent on their compliance with legal requirements.
The meeting also addressed concerns regarding private Hajj operators and their advance payments to Saudi Arabia. Operators informed the committee that they had already sent advance payments, but without formal agreements with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, they may not receive their allotted Hajj quotas.
The committee has instructed private operators to finalize their agreements with the Ministry as soon as possible.
