The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to launch a campaign highlighting alleged human rights violations in Pakistan and the role of state institutions during the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump in Washington on January 20.
According to The News, PTI plans to deploy trucks equipped with images and videos showcasing alleged human rights abuses in Pakistan. These trucks will operate on public roads, though some areas near Capitol Hill and the White House will be closed due to the event.
The campaign is designed to ramp up pressure on the Pakistani government amid ongoing talks with PTI, while political figures in the United States continue to advocate for the release of Imran Khan, amplifying calls for international action.
Earlier, Richard Grenell, a close ally of Trump, gained attention in Pakistan for calling for Khan’s release after he was ousted from office in April 2022 through a parliamentary no-confidence vote. On November 26, Grenell tweeted, “Release Imran Khan,” on the same day authorities launched a late-night crackdown against PTI protesters marching towards Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
In an earlier interview with a US media outlet, Grenell noted that the US had a much stronger relationship with Pakistan during the Trump administration, when Imran Khan was in power, due to his status as an outsider.
