ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Shibli Faraz has claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan-led government has nothing to do with the treason case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and other party leaders.
“It might be possible that the First Information Report (FIR) would be registered against Nawaz by his own people to get political mileage,” he said while addressing a press conference after a federal cabinet meeting.
The federal minister informed that the Punjab government had started an investigation to unearth the truth behind the case and will find out the person who had lodged the FIR.
Responding to a question, the information minister said, “When you speak in the language of Pakistan’s enemies, there is no need to say that you are not a patriot.” Shibli Faraz reiterated that PM Imran will not bow down to pressure tactics or blackmailing.
Speaking about the cabinet meeting, Faraz said that the sugar and wheat stocks of the country came under discussion. He further said that the cabinet was told that the stocks of the country were sufficient according to the current demand.
He also said that the Prime Minister expressed serious concerns over rising prices of edible items. During the meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to evolve a comprehensive strategy to bring down prices of essential items.
Shibli said that wheat prices were higher in Sindh due to the provincial government’s reluctance to release the crop. “The cabinet was briefed that target of the cotton crop for the current year cannot be achieved due to massive losses inflicted by rains and floods,” he added.
