Four labourers injured after building collapses in Orangi Town

KARACHI: At least four labourers were trapped after a three-storey building collapsed on Friday in Orangi Town area of Karachi.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Sector 9 during an anti-encroachment operation along a drainage in Orangi Town.  The multi-storey building was collapsed during the anti-encroachment operation to clear illegal constructions near Orangi Town drain.

Several others were feared trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams rushed immediately and pulled three people from the debris. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

Local residents said the building collapsed due to the inexperienced staff of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). It emerged that the residential building was being demolished by labourers using manual tools instead of heavy machinery

Efforts are underway to rescue another labourer trapped inside the debris of the building. The owner and contractor of the building has fled from the scene, while authorities have not visited the site of the incident.
