The death toll from rain-related drowning incidents in Tharparkar has risen to four as intermittent rainfall continued across the district.
According to police, a young man, Lemon Meghwar, drowned while bathing in rainwater in Ranchhari village of Chachro tehsil. In a separate incident, another youth, Aqeed Lanjo, lost his life while bathing in rainwater in Karihar village of Diplo tehsil.
Local residents said the bodies of both victims were recovered from the rainwater by villagers through self-help efforts. They added that seasonal ponds in several villages have been attracting large numbers of children and young people, while the district administration has been largely absent from the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released its report on the human and material losses caused by monsoon rains across Pakistan from June 26 to August 1.
According to the report, 126 people were killed and 404 injured in rain-related incidents during the period.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest death toll with 55 fatalities, including 26 children. Punjab reported 47 deaths, including 19 children, and 295 injuries, among them 68 children.
In Sindh, five people were killed and seven injured, including two children among the deceased, while eight people died and 15 were injured in Balochistan.
The NDMA said 75 relief camps had been established in Punjab for rain-affected residents, while 333 heatwave camps were also set up, providing medical assistance to 2,203 people.
Over the past 24 hours, rescue teams evacuated nine people to safety in four operations in Punjab, while two people were rescued in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and five in Sindh, the report added.
