The Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPA) has helped a widowed woman reclaim her rightful property, as reported by national media on Wednesday.
With FOSPA’s assistance, the woman regained ownership of the property she was previously unaware of. The Federal Ombudsperson ensured that the widow received her due inheritance after her relative had seized the property following her husband’s death.
According to the FOSPA spokesperson, Mehwish Tahir approached the ombudsperson upon learning about the property. After her husband’s death, a relative had taken over the property and had also been collecting its rent.
The spokesperson added that Mehwish Tahir had no documents or information about the property and was even unaware of its location.
FOSPA, in collaboration with the CDA and the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority, made it possible for the woman to access the property documents. The ombudsperson ensured that the widow received her rightful and legal share.
Federal Ombudsperson Fauzia Viqar stated that many women, especially widows, are not fully aware of their property or inheritance rights. FOSPA will ensure that no woman is deprived of her rights merely due to lack of awareness or resources.
Fauzia Viqar further said that property records should be digitized and made easily accessible so that women can independently claim their rights.
