Skardu: Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of five more mountaineers who were killed in the recent avalanche on Broad Peak, bringing them to the base camp for further arrangements.
An avalanche struck Broad Peak several days ago, claiming the lives of 10 climbers. According to sources, the latest recovery operation successfully retrieved five additional bodies from the mountain.
Among those recovered is the body of a Nepali climber, which has also been brought to the base camp. Sources said the climber’s final rites will be held in the United Kingdom.
The bodies were located at an altitude of approximately 5,000 metres in extremely difficult terrain. They are expected to be airlifted to Skardu by helicopter later today.
Meanwhile, the bodies of two missing climbers have yet to be found. The missing include Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi and a female climber, with search efforts continuing under challenging conditions.
