KARACHI: Police claimed to have dismantled a large-scale gutka manufacturing unit in the Garibabad area during a successful operation, arresting a fugitive suspect who was allegedly wanted in multiple criminal cases.
According to police officials, the raid resulted in the seizure of a gutka packing and mixing machine, approximately 200 kilograms of Chalia (areca nut), and around 1,000 packets of finished gutka. The arrested suspect was identified as Naseer alias Chocha who, police said, had been absconding and was wanted in several cases.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly disclosed that he had been involved in the gutka manufacturing business since 2001. He further claimed that he had previously established a gutka factory at a rented premises in Old Golimar and that a man identified as Haji Riyats had been his business partner.
Police further stated that the suspect allegedly confessed to using another factory located in Lyari to conceal weapons, narcotics, and other illegal items. Investigators also claimed that the suspect admitted to paying weekly extortion to an individual identified as Kashif Dada since 2024 and allowing the latter’s associates to store illegal goods at the factory.
According to investigators, the suspect also allegedly acknowledged providing financial assistance to support the operational activities of the criminal group.
Police have registered a case against the suspect and said that further investigations are underway to verify the disclosures made during interrogation and determine the involvement of other individuals mentioned in the case.
