TUNIS: Five people have been verified dead after four migrant boats sank off the coast of Tunisia.
According to international media, the Tunisian coast guards have rescued 84 people on board the boats while 33 people are still missing.
According to media reports, the migrants were trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to go to Italy when they met with a tragic accident. Tunisian government officials have not commented on this at present.

It should be noted that this coastline has become an important point of departure for people fleeing poverty and conflict in Africa and the Middle East for a better life in Europe.
According to unofficial United Nations data, 12,000 of those arriving in Italy this year traveled from Tunisia, compared to 1,300 in the same period in 2022.
