KARACHI: A fire erupted in a packaging factory near the Karachi fish harbor on Saturday morning.
At least three fire tenders of the Fire Brigade and the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) are busy dousing out the fire. Rescue officials said the cause of the fire cannot be ascertained yet.
In another incident, four people were injured when a fire erupted in the basement of an apartment located in Block 1, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, on Saturday.
Rescue officials rushed to the scene of the incident and doused the fire. The cause of the fire is reportedly a short circuit, rescue officials revealed. The injured are said to be security guards and have been provided medical treatment.
On Aug 27, sixteen workers were burnt to death when a fire allegedly caused by an electric short-circuit engulfed an industrial unit in Mehran Town in Korangi.
Investigation revealed that more than 20 labourers were inside the compound when a highly flammable chemical caught fire which spread to the entire building. Reports also suggested fire rescue services reached the site after a delayed response time.
Rescue officials faced difficulties due to smoke while they tried to break the factory walls to retrieve the labourers inside. The fire brigade teams also faced difficulties in the rescue operation because of the narrow lanes leading to the factory.
After the incident, the Korangi Industrial Area police station registered an FIR, nominating the building owner, factory owner, manager, two supervisors, and the watchman.
