ISLAMABAD: A root of some plantation, which looks likes ginger, was being sold in the fruit and vegetable market of Islamabad amid coronavirus lockdown.
According to hotel owners in vegetable markets, unhealthy and fake ginger was being widely sold in the markets while the city’s management wasn’t taking any action.
After the disclosure of fake ginger reports in vegetable markets, Model Police started searching for the real accused and detained workers from the spot. Sources claimed that the detained workers revealed the name of an influential trader involved in the ginger business.
According to the workers, the number of entities associated with the fake ginger business in the vegetable market is around five.
Sources further claimed that the investigation officer recovered 300 bags of fake gingers. After that, SHO of the vegetable market area and the investigation received a bribe of Rs 8 lakh and closed the case.
Earlier in January, police recovered six huge fake gingers from the fruit and vegetable markets of Islamabad. This root resembles ginger but no one knows what the botanical name of this plant is, police said.
