Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Independent Senator Faisal Vawda performed Sajda (prostration) outside the Supreme Court after the apex court accepted his apology in a contempt case.
The Supreme Court withdrew the contempt of court notice issued to Vawda and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmaker Mustafa Kamal.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, while reading the court order, stated that both parliamentarians had recognized their mistakes. “They have now withdrawn their statements and tendered an unconditional apology to the court,” the order read.
Earlier on Wednesday, the former PTI stalwart offered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for making accusations against the judiciary and judges.
“To show his utmost respect as per the teachings of Islam for the Honourable Court, the respondent sincerely apologizes unconditionally,” Vawda said in his five-page application. “The respondent has come to further realization that despite his best intentions, his press conference may have come across as objectionable,” it added.
Following today’s verdict, the former federal minister bowed down to God to express his gratitude.
Vawda had been issued a show-cause notice after holding a hard-hitting press conference against the judiciary.
