Punjabi gangster Goldy Brar has revealed why he ordered the killing of Punjabi hip-hop star Sidhu Moosewala, whose murder shocked India and the subcontinent.
Sidhu Moosewala, whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Jawahar village of Mansa district on May 29, 2022. In the incident, 30 bullets were fired at Sidhu’s car, resulting in his death on the spot, while two others in the vehicle were seriously injured.
Goldy Brar, who has been on the run since then, disclosed the motive behind the pop star’s murder during an interview with the BBC. The interview was conducted through a six-hour voice note exchange, during which the gangster said that Sidhu Moosewala’s arrogance was unbearable and that he had made mistakes that could not be forgiven.
“We had no option but to kill him. He had to face the consequences of his actions. It was either him or us. As simple as that,” he said.
Goldy Brar further said that Sidhu Moosewala and gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi had been in contact since 2018. Brar, who claims to have ordered the hit, was not in India at the time of the killing and is believed to have been in Canada.
According to Brar, singer Sidhu Moosewala used to send Lawrence Bishnoi good morning and good night messages. However, when Sidhu supported the Kabaddi tournament organized by their rival, the Bambiha gang, Bishnoi became angry.
Later, the murder of Lawrence Bishnoi’s close associate Vicky Middukhera further deteriorated the relationship between Sidhu and Bishnoi.
According to the police investigation, Sidhu Moosewala’s close friend Shagunpreet Singh was named as an accomplice in the murder. Sidhu consistently denied his friend’s involvement, but the gangsters claimed that Sidhu had aligned himself with the rival gang.
Goldy Brar added that they had tried many times to seek justice, but after repeated failures, they were compelled to act. “When no one listens to decency, the sound of a gun is heard,” he said.
When asked whether there is a system of law and justice in India, Brar replied, “All this is only for the powerful. Common people do not get justice.”
