It was February 2022 when late actor Matthew Perry announced to release of a memoir titled ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible thing’ in which he would open up about the highs and lows of his time in the limelight.
The actor who died on October 28 at the age of spent decades of his life struggling with substance abuse. Now after his untimely death which left millions of fans heartbroken, let’s have a detailed look at his memoir:
In his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the Friends actor opened up about:
- Started drinking at the age of 14. His alcoholism began to get worse in high school when he first started acting.
- Perry wrote about the early beginnings of Friends, which was titled Friends Like Us at the time, revealing that he almost didn’t get to audition for Chandler due to conflicts with another series titled L.A.X. 2194. Thankfully for him, L.A.X. 2194 didn’t end up getting picked up, making him available to audition for Friends, which he, of course, ended up booking.
Here’s why Matthew Perry’s cause of death has been ‘postponed’
- Perry struggled with addiction throughout his time on Friends as his ‘Vicodin habit’ kicked in badly when he was filming the famous sitcom noting that his appearance changed drastically based on his addiction at the time.
- His relationship with Julia Roberts started over fax. They shared poems and sweet words with each other. He also revealed that Roberts “would only do [Friends] if she could be in [his character’s] storyline.”
- Bruce Willis appeared on Friends because he lost a bet to Matthew Perry while working together in a movie titled ”The Whole Nine Yards’.
- He was hospitalized for five months after his colon ruptured as a result of using OxyContin. His heart even stopped for five minutes during his colon surgery.
- Perry revealed that he was initially going to star in ‘Don’t Look Up’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio, but a medical scare forced him to pull out of the movie.
- He had to re-record most of his lines for the 2002 film ‘Serving Sara’ as a result of his drug use. He had to leave and go to rehab for his painkiller addiction.
- He proposed to Molly Hurwitz when he was high. Though he did not refer to her by name, he did open up about his engagement in November 2020.
