England fell to a dismal defeat against India as the visitors capitulated and the hosts recorded their biggest-ever Test victory. India won by 434 runs in Rajkot as England collapsed to 122 all out in the second innings.
Chasing a daunting 557 for victory, England were all out for 122 on day four of the contest at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
India set England a formidable target and then swiftly dismissed the tourists to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. India had maintained control of the match since securing a significant first-innings lead of 126 runs and remained dominant throughout.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his prowess with an unbeaten 214, while Shubman Gill contributed 91 runs, and debutant Sarfaraz Khan notched his second half-century of the match before India declared their second innings at 430-4.
In pursuit of a record-breaking 557 runs for victory, England faltered, finding themselves at 50-7 with Ravindra Jadeja wreaking havoc on their middle order, compounded by Joe Root’s ongoing struggles. When Kuldeep Yadav dismissed England captain Ben Stokes lbw for 15, the match was effectively sealed in India’s favor.
The fourth test in Ranchi begins on Friday.
