During the former PTI government, Pakistan’s former National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf and the then Prime Minister Imran Khan started showing their eyes to US, the country’s foreign policy seemed to be on a different path and the hope was that the Do More demand will die forever.
First of all, we have to try to understand what is the demand of Do More? So, go to some 20 years ago in the era of former President Pervez Musharraf when Pakistan started participating in America’s war against Afghanistan at the name of a war against terrorism.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said on several occasions that Pakistan did not need to enter the US war. We sacrificed thousands of lives and yet Pakistan never got any reward for its sacrifices, but always demanded to do more. Do more means whatever you have done so far is not enough.
If the same thing was demanded from Pakistan in a friendly manner, then it could have been given a positive impression, but the USA language and accent has always been a topic of discussion.
Pakistan has spent years in the war against terrorism. TTP, BLA and other terrorist organizations have been hit hard by the Pakistan Army and many successful operations have been carried out in which countless terrorists have been killed and many have been arrested, but terrorism has not stopped yet.
Here the question can be asked why terrorism has not ended in Pakistan. So a handful of terrorists can definitely be eliminated, but when an entire country is under the grip of terrorists, it is better to hand over the government to them than to liberate it, which happened in Afghanistan.
After 20 years of continuous war in Afghanistan, US got nothing and it returned from Afghanistan as a failure. The establishment of the Taliban government in Afghanistan was an eye-opening event which was seen by the international community with very concerned eyes and then Pakistan was demanded to do more.
It was a simple Do More demand which the US and its allies made by putting their eyes in the eyes of the Pakistani rulers and heard a response from Pakistan, but now some other forum also demanding Pakistan to Do More, I.e. FATF and IMF.
FATF has kept Pakistan in the gray list for years and has repeatedly demanded a Do More, which only when it is fulfilled, the chances of Pakistan getting out of the gray list are bright. And then the IMF delayed the repayment of the loan for a long time, mainly due to the Imran Khan government’s breach of contract with the IMF.
Pakistan got 1.16 billion dollars from the IMF, but according to the news that appeared in the media on Friday, the IMF repeated the demand of Do More while issuing the report of the seventh and eighth assessment of Pakistan. The organization said that Pakistan has not fulfilled 3 performance and 7 structural conditions.
Finally, the most important thing to note is that these direct and indirect demands of Do More and More will never end until Pakistan stands on its own feet by getting rid of the usury or Riba system.
