KARACHI: Elections for Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Karachi will be held today,
In view of the expected rains in Karachi, Election Commission Sindh has given the status of the polling station to Arts Council Auditorium instead of the KMC Building where polling will be held through a show of hand between 9 am to 5 pm while the final results will be announced tomorrow.
Provincial Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chauhan said that heavy police force will be present inside and outside the polling station while Returning Officer (RO) and Deputy Returning Officer (DR) have been given first-class magistrate powers.

Around 184 seats will be required to get the post of mayor, at that time the number of members of the People’s Party in the city council is 155, Jamaat-e-Islami 130, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) 62, Muslim League (N) 14, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam ( (JUI) has 4 seats and Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) has 1 seat.
In the House of 366, a majority of the members who are present in the hall is required for the election of the mayor. The People’s Party has the support of the Non-League and JUI, thus their total number of voters is 173.
The joint membership of Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is 192, which was enough to win the mayor’s seat, but some PTI candidates have announced not to vote, which could change the situation.
The Ministry of Interior has approved the deployment of Rangers for the election and the statement issued by the Ministry of Interior has said that Sindh Rangers will be deployed as a quick response force for the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
