A day before Eid al-Adha, major bus terminals in Karachi witnessed severe overcrowding as thousands of people attempted to travel to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday with their families.
Passengers travelling from Karachi to Hyderabad complained of sharp increases in transport fares, with tickets officially priced at Rs600 allegedly being sold in the black market for as much as Rs1,100.
Travellers also accused transport operators of deliberately reducing the number of vehicles, creating long delays and worsening congestion at bus stands.
According to passengers, only one coaster was being dispatched every hour on some routes.
Large crowds gathered around buses and coasters, with passengers waiting anxiously for vehicle doors to open in hopes of securing seats.
Many commuters, including families and elderly passengers, were seen stranded for hours amid severe disorder at terminals.
Passengers said they faced significant hardship while trying to travel to interior Sindh ahead of Eid, blaming transporters for arbitrary fare increases and inadequate transport arrangements during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
