KARACHI: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has allowed a seven percent increase in the prices of medicines per year.
The drug manufacturing companies have increased by seven percent as per the notification issued by the DRAP.
Common medications like blood pressure, diabetes and ulcer medications have been affected by the recent price increase.

The price of blood pressure medication has moved up by Rs12, diabetes medication by Rs30 and anti-acidity syrups by Rs46. Calcium supplements will cost five rupees more and painkillers an additional two rupees.
Earlier, addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Health Minister Aamir Mehmood Kiani said that the increase in the prices of some medicines was issued keeping in view the increasing parity in dollar-rupee prices.
He added it was necessary to increase such prices to ensure the availability of life-saving drugs in the country and to avoid any gap in demand and supply.
