ISLAMABAD: Local media in Afghanistan on Thursday alleged that Pakistani forces launched an air strike on TTP strongholds in Nangarhar province, following repeated warnings from both Taliban-Pakistan governments.
The reports emerged as the National Security Committee (NSC) in Islamabad categorically asked Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers, without directly naming them, to deny safe haven to Pakistani terrorist groups on its soil and end their patronage, while reiterating its intent to crush terrorist groups operating inside the country with full force.
A local Afghan media outlet known as Hasht-E Subh Daily quoted sources as alleging that Pakistani fighters bombed targets in Salala neighborhood in the vicinity of Gushta district on Thursday morning (Jan 5).
Neither the Afghan Taliban administration in Kabul nor their representatives in Nangarhar confirmed the report.
However, reacting on Afghan media reports, Pakistan’s Foreign Office categorically rejected reports claiming that Pakistan had carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan, terming them to be “utterly baseless and malicious”.
While responding to media queries, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch dismissed the report.
