KARACHI: Five major machines at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) have not been working for several months.
According to sources, giving life-saving care to heart patients has severely been affected due to malfunctioning of the diagnostic machines.
There is only one CT angiography machine available at the institute which is also not working, and patients are referred to private hospitals.
There were nine laboratories at NICVD to carry out different tests. However, lab number 2,4,5,6 and 7 are closed for a long time now. The administration department is not taking required steps to reopen the labs, revealed sources.
Reports also added that the functioning of lab is important when it comes to critical cases of CT Angio, Angio Plasti, Angiography and other cardiovascular diseases.
Executive Director NICVD Dr Nadeem Qamar has said that service agreement issues with the medical companies were the reason for the malfunctioning of the diagnostic machines. However, he said the issues have been solved and machines would start functioning within a week.
It is pertinent to mention that due to malfunctioning of the machines, patients have been facing frequent delays which can be life threatening in some cases.
