Persistent dense fog is expected to linger in Punjab, the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh throughout the current week, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The prevailing dense fog is attributed to a stable atmosphere over Islamabad, Punjab, the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
Additionally, a westerly system carrying rain is anticipated to enter Balochistan on January 4 and persist until January 5, 2024. This weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rain, accompanied by wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills in various areas, including Chaghi, Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Qillah Saifullah, Loralai, Pishin, Mastung, Zhob, Kalat, Musa Khel, Kharan, Harnai, Sibbi, Noshki, Khuzdar, and the Makran coast on Thursday and Friday.
Due to the prevailing foggy conditions, daytime temperatures are likely to decrease by 3-5 degrees Celsius in the coming days. Very cold weather conditions are expected to persist in areas affected by fog, posing potential health risks. Moreover, the fog may disrupt operations in flights, railways, and highways/motorways.
Travelers are advised to remain cautious during the foggy days.
