Death toll from coronavirus in Pakistan crosses 5,200

KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 251,624 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 5,266.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), around 69 more people died due to complications related to the coronavirus in the country over the past 24 hours. Overall 15,851,70 tests have been conducted across the country.
Around 2,769 new cases were detected during the previous 24 hours. As many as 22,532 COVID-19 tests were conducted. At least 84,442 patients are under treatment at present while 161,917 have recovered from the infection.

Out of the total number of infections, Sindh reported 105,533, around 87,043 cases in Punjab, 30,486 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,185 in Balochistan, 14,108 Islamabad, 1,671 in Gilgit Baltistan and 1,599 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 5,266 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 1,099 deaths, Sindh 1,795, Balochistan 126, Gilgit-Baltistan 34, Punjab 2,013, Azad Kashmir 44 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 153 death.
Moreover, Pakistan has edged past Italy to become the 11th worst-hit country by the COVID-19 pandemic, powered by a surge in new infections across the country.
On the other hand, Pakistan saw a 28 percent reduction in critical coronavirus cases due to a smart lockdown and the implementation of standard operating operation (SOPs).
