KARACHI: A report released by Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has painted bleak picture of law and order situation in the Metropolis, particularly in regards to street crimes.
Based on the CPLC report, the crime situation in Karachi seems to be quite concerning, particularly in regards to street crimes. According to the report, there were a total of 186 deaths resulting from robbery attempts and other incidents, and many more people were injured.
In the first four months of 2023, there were a significant number of motorcycle thefts, with nearly 19,000 motorcycles being snatched or stolen, out of which only 1,069 were recovered. Similarly, 754 vehicles were snatched, and only 211 were recovered. This high rate of vehicle theft and snatching is a worrying sign for law enforcement authorities and the general public.
The report also highlighted a significant number of cellphone snatching incidents, with 9,464 citizens being deprived of their cellphones during the first four months of 2023, and only 161 being recovered.
The report says that kidnapping for ransom and extortion were also reported, although the numbers for these crimes were relatively low, with two incidents of kidnapping and five incidents of extortion reported in the same period.
