ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported two deaths by novel coronavirus during the last 24 hours as the number of confirmed positive cases has surged to 1,575,855. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 30,638 on Wednesday. At least 22 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours.
This came after the National Command and Operation Centre denied existence of the dreaded coronavirus strain, BF.7 in Pakistan. However, six new cases of XBB and XBB.1 were reported in Karachi on Tuesday.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) had earlier confirmed the existence of Omicron’s subvariant XBB in the country. According to the NIH, 29 cases of coronavirus variant XBB had been reported in Pakistan so far. It further said that the presence of highly infectious variant BF.7 has been reported in our neighboring country but it is not found here so far.
According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH) on Wednesday, the death toll in the country now stood at at 30,638 whereas the number of total infections now rose to 1,575,854 after adding the fresh 22 cases.
Pakistan has conducted 5,126 tests in the past 24 hours out of which 22 persons were tested positive for the disease. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 0.43 percent.
