KARACHI: A district court has rejected the request to exhume the body of a young female doctor who died in an apparent suicide.
The court remarked that Dr Maha Ali Shah was buried in Mirpurkhas, and therefore, it was beyond the jurisdiction of the court in District South Karachi. The court directed the police to approach the relevant court in Mirpurkhas.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) South has written a letter to the session judge in Mirpurkhas to grant permission to exhume her grave. An investigation team has left for Mirpurkhas where the grave will be exhumed in the presence of a magistrate.

Earlier, Police had decided to seek court permission for the exhumation of Dr Maha Ali Shah’s body for conducting postmortem again after the previous medical report was declared incorrect.
According to police sources, Dr Maha Shah used a 9mm pistol to shoot herself with her right hand, while the medical report stated the bullet shot from the left hand.
The police sources said that the medico-legal officer (MLO) had released her medical report without conducting a post mortem. Police investigators had decided to exhume Dr Maha’s body and conducting post mortem again to ascertain the fact surrounding the death of the deceased.
Dr Maha Ali committed suicide in Karachi’s Defense area on August 18 and was a practicing doctor in a private hospital in Clifton. She was also an influencer on social media with a large following.
