Coronavirus cases in Pakistan exceed 57,705

KARACHI: Pakistan has reported 57,705 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, while the death toll stands at 1,197 across the country.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 57,705 cases of coronavirus were reported while 16 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 17,502 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
A total of 22,934 cases were reported in Sindh, 20,654in Punjab,  8,080 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,468Balochistan, 1,728in Islamabad, 630 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 211 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 1,197 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 408, Sindh 369, Balochistan 41, Gilgit-Baltistan 08, Punjab 352, Azad Kashmir 02 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 17 deaths.
As per details, 22 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
The coronavirus plague continues to wreck across the world and only an effective vaccine will end all chaos. Scientists are scrambling to find a cure by sharing research and overcoming obstacles others may be facing.
There are more than 100 research groups pursuing vaccines with nearly a dozen in advanced stages of human trials or poised to start soon.
Officials have recorded more than 5.40 million cases and over 343,800 deaths since the virus emerged in China in December 2019.
The United States has the highest death toll with 98,706 followed by Britain with 36,675, and Italy with 32,735. Over 2.27 million people so far have recovered from the infection.
