The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a reduction of Rs1.98 per unit in electricity tariffs under the first quarterly adjustment of 2026, providing estimated consumer relief of more than Rs67 billion. The tariff cut will remain effective for three months and will apply to electricity bills issued in June, July and August.
However, consumers will not receive the full benefit in June due to a fuel charge adjustment (FCA) of Rs1.19 per unit for electricity consumed in April. As a result, the net relief reflected in June bills will be around Rs0.80 per unit.
In a separate determination, Nepra approved the recovery of the positive FCA from consumers during the current billing cycle.
The regulator said that the Rs1.1907 per unit FCA will apply to all consumer categories of K-Electric and ex-Wapda distribution companies (XWDISCOs), except lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), and prepaid consumers who have opted for prepaid tariffs.
The FCA will also be applicable to electricity usage covered under the incremental consumption package, with distribution companies directed to include the adjustment in June bills.
Distribution companies had initially sought a higher FCA of Rs1.74 per unit to recover an additional Rs16 billion from consumers. However, Nepra reduced the requested amount, resulting in an estimated fiscal benefit of Rs11 billion for power distribution companies.
