KARACHI: The illegal construction of a residential complex owned by former Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader and renowned gold trader Kamran Tessori is ongoing in violation of laws.
Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and Pakistan Railways authorities took action last year only on the main gate of the “Tejori Heights” and demolished the booking office to appease court authorities. However, the construction work continues and bookings are being received from citizens.
The high-rise building including residential apartments and commercial ventures is being constructed in Gulshan-e-Iqbal along the main railway track of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). Railways authorities have failed to take action against the construction of public lands.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered to vacate the land from possession but the developers and builders have received a stay order. An advertisement has been issued calling for booking in semi-luxurious apartments near Gilani Railway Station in contravention of laws.
It may be mentioned that a case no. 44/205 has been ongoing in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on citizens and citizens were cautioned from investments in the project. Despite the passing of one year, the construction and bookings in the complex is ongoing.
Tejori Heights is being built by Karachi Town Builders and Developers at main Sehba Akhtar Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13D near Hasan Square. The plot measures 2,800 square yards and has 182 luxury apartments.
In March 2019, the project started taking bookings but soon after the Pakistan Railways issued a circular that the project was “illegal” as it owed. The PR and Pakistan Railways Employees Co-operative Housing Society both went to court claiming ownership of the land, saying that the builder had started construction illegally.
The case was complicated further as Pakistan Railways said it owned the land and had given it to the Pakistan Railways Employees Cooperative Society on lease. The developers and builders claimed that they have all legal and authentic documents for the land and have satisfied clients about the construction of the project and they have a No-Objection Certificate or permission to build and an approved layout plan.
