KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases have surged to 29,367 in Pakistan on Sunday, while the death toll stands at 641.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 1,262 cases of coronavirus were reported while 18 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 7,809 patients have recovered from the disease, while 153 are said to be critical as the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases witnessed a sharp increase in all provinces. Out of a total of 29,367confirmed cases, Sindh has reported 10,771 cases, Punjab 11,093, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 4,509, Balochistan 1,876, Islamabad Capital Territory 609, Gilgit-Baltistan 430 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir 79.
Out of a total of 641 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 234, Sindh 181, Balochistan 241, Gilgit-Baltistan 04, Punjab 194, and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 04 deaths.
According to the National Command and Control Center, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
Moreover, the World Health Organisation (WHO) earlier warned that the number of estimated coronavirus cases in Pakistan can rise to an estimated 200,000 by mid-July if effective interventions are not taken.
Globally: Officials have recorded more than 3.95 million cases and more than 273,000 deaths since the virus emerged in China in December 2019.
