In Lahore and other cities across Punjab, the prices of chicken meat and eggs have seen an increase as temperatures fell following the first winter rain.
As of today, December 23, the price of chicken meat has jumped by Rs. 7, now costing Rs. 475 per kilogram, up from Rs. 468 per kg yesterday. The wholesale price of live broiler chickens has also risen by Rs. 5, bringing it to Rs. 314 per kg, while the retail price is now Rs. 328 per kg.
Additionally, the Lahore administration has updated the official price list, raising the price of eggs by Re. 1, setting the new cost for a dozen eggs at Rs. 326.
In Multan, the wholesale price of broiler chicken is Rs. 294 per kilogram, with a retail price of Rs. 308 per kg. Broiler meat is priced at Rs. 446 per kilogram, while eggs are selling for Rs. 324 per dozen.
Prices are anticipated to rise further in the coming days, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted a drop in temperatures and an intensification of cold weather.
Lahore experienced a significant temperature drop on Monday after receiving its first winter rain, ending a prolonged dry spell.
Rainfall was reported in areas such as Garhi Shahu, Abbott Road, Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Model Town, Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, Garden Town, Johar Town, Baghbanpura, Canal Road, Sabzarar, and other parts of the city, with temperatures falling to 9°C in Lahore.
The PMD has indicated that light rain is expected to persist throughout the day in Lahore, Kasur, Kahna, Pakpattan, Gujranwala, and Renala Khurd.
Severe cold is forecasted for mountainous regions, including Murree, during the morning and night, with the possibility of fog or smog affecting several cities in Punjab.
