In response to escalating tensions in the Kurram region, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has introduced a helicopter service to alleviate transportation challenges for residents.
The Chief Minister’s Press Secretary issued a statement detailing the initiative, undertaken on the direct instructions of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The service aims to provide both emergency transportation for residents and essential supplies to the affected area.
The statement highlighted that a provincial MI-17 helicopter carried out two flights between Peshawar and Kurram Agency the previous day, transporting 53 people, including 14 patients, from Parachinar to Peshawar.
Today, the helicopter conducted three flights. The first carried 16 people, including jirga members and government officials, to Parachinar.
The second transported 27 individuals from Parachinar to Tal, and a third flight is planned to bring stranded individuals in Tal back to Parachinar. By the end of the day, the service is expected to have completed five flights, transporting over 100 people in total.
The helicopter service is also playing a vital role in delivering medical supplies to the region. Yesterday, 1,850 kilograms of medicines worth Rs12 million were delivered to Parachinar from Peshawar. To date, seven flights have been dedicated to transporting medicines, with supplies valued at over Rs60 million.
