Starting in 2025, Amazon Prime Video will implement several significant changes to its benefits and policies. Unfortunately for subscribers, password sharing will be limited to just five devices, and low-tier plans will no longer offer an ad-free experience.
According to a report by Desidime, citing an email sent to Amazon Prime Video users, Amazon India has announced, “Starting January 2025, we are updating our usage terms in India to include up to two TVs as part of your five devices entitlement.” There are more changes to be aware of, read on for the full details on what’s changing with Amazon Prime Video in 2025.
Password Sharing to End Soon
Amazon Prime Video, with over 200 million paying subscribers, is making significant adjustments to its terms and conditions starting in January 2025. Similar to Netflix’s recent move, Prime Video will implement restrictions on password sharing.
Currently, users can share their Prime Video membership across up to 10 devices, making it an affordable option for families and groups. However, from January 2025, users in India will only be able to share accounts across a maximum of 5 devices, with only 2 of those devices allowed to be TVs. Unlike Netflix, which restricts password sharing to household members only, Prime Video users will still be able to share their account with others, as long as the 5-device limit is not exceeded.
Pay More for Ad-Free Experience
Another major change coming to Prime Video in 2025 is the introduction of a new ad-free tier for subscribers in India. Current Prime Video users will no longer have an ad-free experience on lower-tier plans. Starting in 2025, all users will begin seeing ads during both TV shows and movies, although Prime Video promises fewer ads compared to traditional TV and other streaming services.
