KARACHI: The Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) foiled a smuggling attempt and arrested a large quantity of narcotics.
The PCG seized a huge quantity of drugs during operation at Naka Khari checkpost near Winder in Balochistan. Around 450 kilograms of cannabis were seized from a concealed compartments in a truck loaded with apple crates. One suspect was taken into custody.
The value of the drugs is said to be around Rs771.9 million in the international market. The recovered drugs, truck and three suspects have taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
In a separate raid, two passenger women were arrested from a coach and 15 kilograms of high-quality cannabis was recovered from their possession. The women had also been taken into custody.
Earlier, Pakistan Coastguards continued operation against smuggling and illegal trade and seized a large number of narcotics and other prohibited substances.
During the last two weeks during patrolling, three kilograms of heroin hidden in the bushes was recovered near Winder city in Balochistan.
During a search operation at Naka Khari checkpost, 950 kg of betelnuts, 3,302 packets of smuggled Indian gutka, 92 tyres, imported cigarettes and other prohibited items were seized. A passenger coach was checked during which 196 mobile phones and 16 tablet devices were recovered.
