TASHKENT: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir is on a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan aimed at enhancing military cooperation and defence collaboration.
COAS Munir called on the President of Uzbekistan Mr Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Defence Minister and the Chairman and Secretary of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the army chief emphasized on enhancing mutual training cooperation and intelligence sharing.
COAS Munir appreciated the standard of training and readiness of the Uzbekistan Military Forces and their understanding of regional security issues, the Inter-Services Press Relations (ISPR) said
On arrival at the Ministry of Defence, COAS was given a warm welcome and was presented a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out contingent. He also laid a floral wreath at the Memorial Complex of Martyrs in Tashkent.
Uzbekistan has become Pakistan’s strategic partner after enhanced multi-layered cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Apart from defense, economic cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan has seen a flurry of activity in recent months.
In February this year, Pakistan and Uzbekistan signed a $1 billion trade agreement to encourage the exchange of goods and services between the two countries.
The signing of the agreement was followed by the arrival in Pakistan of a convoy of trucks carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Uzbekistan via Afghanistan in June.
