The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Interior Ministry has announced the closure of all Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across the province from January 20 to January 31.
In a statement issued by the ministry, the decision was attributed to low gas pressure affecting domestic consumers. The government cited severe winter conditions as the main reason for prioritizing gas supply to households over CNG stations.
The move is intended to alleviate the challenges faced by domestic consumers during the peak demand period.
Earlier, all CNG stations in Peshawar were shut down until January 19 to address the ongoing low gas pressure crisis.
It is worth noting that CNG stations operating on both indigenous gas and imported LNG are grappling with gas shortages or complete closures nationwide. This sector, which cross-subsidizes domestic and other sectors, has been significantly impacted.
Meanwhile, rising petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices, combined with the unavailability of CNG, have forced transporters to shift to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as an alternative. This shift persists despite the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) imposing a ban on the use of LPG in public transport.
