ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi on Tuesday denied rumours surrounding his resignation, claiming that he was unable to perform his duties due to health issues.
Speaking to media Shabbar Zaidi said, “I have not withdrawn from my position as Chairman of the FBR. I am just unable to perform my duties due to various health issues.”
Chairman FBR’s has been unable to concentrate on his work due to poor health. Zaidi has made two prolonged leaves during the chairmanship including the last one on 31st January. He has been advised to rest and reduce stress.

Zaidi was appointed as chairman of the FBR in May last year to spearhead the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government’s tax reforms but revenue collection has fallen than the expected target.
Zaidi went on indefinite leave for health reasons with constantly growing revenue shortfalls against the target for the second year in a row. After a two-week absence, he resumed office on 21st Janyary. In his absence, the director administration, an Inland Revenue Service BS-22 officer had taken over as FBR’s acting chairman.
