A major crackdown on an illegal call center in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area has exposed a wide-reaching global cybercrime network linked to a multi-billion-rupee financial fraud case investigated by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
The raid was conducted by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency at a call center operating under the name “One Ten Communications” in Block 4, Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Authorities detained 41 individuals during the operation, describing the facility as more than a call center and instead a hub for international cyber fraud activities.
Investigators said the network was allegedly being run by Murtaza Hussain, also known as Hani, while key associates including Umar alias Robin and call center owners Sunil Salamat, Shane Saleem, and Iris Javaid had been arrested in earlier actions.
According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the accused have confessed to targeting individuals abroad, particularly in the United States. Evidence recovered from encrypted team chats and internal communications revealed the use of structured “fraud pitching” techniques, with members even expressing concern that such activities could eventually lead to the collapse of their merchant accounts.
The scam method, as outlined by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, involved impersonating bank or government officials to target American citizens, especially elderly individuals and veterans. Victims were misled into believing they could reduce loan liabilities and were charged thousands of dollars in fees.
Investigators also found that the group used fake scripts and CRM systems to obtain sensitive data such as Social Security numbers and banking details of U.S. citizens.
