Trader moves SHC against 6 senior police officers alleging extortion

KARACHI: A local trader has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against three DIGs and three SSPs, accusing them of demanding extortion and seeking registration of an FIR and an inquiry into the matter.

Petitioner Muhammad Noman stated in the petition that over Rs360 million has so far been collected in the name of senior police officers, while an amount of Rs70 to Rs80 lakh is allegedly being taken every week.

The petition names DIGs Azfar Mahesar, Asad Raza and Irfan Bahadur, and SSPs Khalid Mustafa Korai, Murtaza Tabassum and Zubair Sheikh.

According to the petitioner, the officers were involved in collecting extortion, leaving him and his family insecure.

The plea has sought directives for the registration of an FIR against the named officers, an inquiry into the allegations, and provision of protection for the petitioner and his family.

The Sindh High Court is yet to fix a date for hearing of the petition.
