NEW DELHI: Two Muslim leaders, including former Member of Parliament of Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Atiq Ahmed, and his brother, Ashraf Ahmed, were brutally killed in front of Indian UP Police and media on their way for a check-up in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, once again highlighting the marginalization of Muslims in India, particularly in the political arena, since the BJP/RSS government came to power.
The brutal murder of the Muslim leaders has sparked outrage, with many calling for the international community to intervene and protect minorities in India.
The gruesome murder has raised concerns about the ongoing genocide of minorities in India, which is allegedly being sponsored by the Indian State/Government. The tragic event has once again highlighted the need for urgent action to protect the rights and safety of minority communities in India.
The tragic incident occurred in the presence of police officers who stood by and watched as the killers shot the victims.

In a video and pictures taken at the scene, the killers were seen chanting “Jai Sri Raam,” while the police seemed to be assisting them instead of stopping them. Some of the policemen were pulling the killers, while others ran away.
The killing took place in the aftermath of Atiq Ahmed’s son, Asad’s death in an encounter with the UP police in Jhansi.
The victims were already receiving death threats while they were in custody. It is being alleged that the murder of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed was ordered by Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, who is associated with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Latest reports from UP, India, suggest that three shooters were identified as Lavkesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya, and Sunny have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
