LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will visit Kot Lakhpat jail today to meet Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif.
The Punjab home department gave the PPP chairman permission to meet Shehbaz Sharif in prison. The meeting is expected to last for three hours. During his visit, the PPP chairman will inquire about his health and will offer his condolences over the sad demise of Sharif’s mother.
Party officials have denied speculation that political matters including the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the ongoing issue for the resignation by opposition parties from the assemblies will be discussed.
Shehbaz Sharif, along with his son Hamza Shahbaz, is incarcerated since Sept 28 in connection with a probe into assets beyond means charges. PPP leaders Sherry Rehman, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Qamar Zaman Kaira are expected to accompany Bilawal during the afternoon visit.
A request was filed to the jail superintendent by PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira seeking approval for the party chairman’s meeting with the opposition leader. Last week, Bilawal had also called on PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif and extended his condolences over the death of her grandmother.
