LONDON: Pakistan’s ODI and T20I skipper Babar Azam interacted with his eight-year-old fan Samiya Afsar via videoconference call.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video of the interaction held to reduce the distance between players and fans. Samiya gained prominence after a practice video went viral on social media in which she was seen playing conventional cricket shots
Her talent is not just limited to cricket as she plans on gifting Babar a sketch she made of him when the batsman returns to Pakistan after the England tour
During the interaction, Babar gave her tips on how to improve her game and also praised her abilities. He announced that he will give her a signed cap in return.

Samiya said she was Babar Azam’s biggest fan and want to be like him. “One day, I will also do for our women’s team what he does for the men’s. “Babar bhai gave me some invaluable batting tips which I will practice whenever I can get back to nets.”
Babar Azam said fans are the most integral part of the game and they keep them motivated to produce match winning performances knowing they praying for their success.
“It was a great delight to meet Samiya. She is a superstar. I was in awe when I first saw her batting video. The way she timed the ball was remarkable. She has all the potential to be a great batter and I look forward to catching up with her when the COVID-19 situation improves,” he said.
“Being involved in sports from a young age helps in understanding life and disciplining yourself. At this stage, I want to ask all of my young fans to make sure they do some form of physical training while concentrating on their studies,” he added.
