KARACHI: Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of police on Tuesday claimed to have killed two members of a car lifting gang after a shootout in Karachi.
According to a statement, the incident took place near Chillghazi Cut, Northern Bypass. An exchange of fire between the AVLC police and four car lifters resulted in the death of two criminals.
The deceased criminals were identified as Saleem and Wajid, both aged about 30 years. However, their two companions managed to escape from the spot. Police recovered two TT pistols along with ammunition and one four-wheeler vehicle. The bodies have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment while further investigation is underway.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bashir Brohi said the shootout took place at Northern Bypass in which two lifters including the head of the gang were shot dead. He said the criminals snatched vehicles from a car carrier a few days earlier in interior Sindh and were also allegedly involved in hijacking buses.
In another incident, AVLC police arrested two motorcycle lifters in injured condition near Lath Basti, Ibrahim Hyderi. Police said the criminals were arrested after an exchange of firing with five motorcycle lifters
They were identified as Shahnawaz Abro s/o Abdul Sattar, aged about 40 years, and Muhammad Ali s/o Najam Ali, aged about 28 years. However, their three accomplices managed to escape from the scene of the incident,
Police recovered one TT pistol along with rounds, two stolen motorcycles and two mobile phones. The injured have shifted to Jinnah Medical Postgraduate Centre (JPMC) for medical treatment and further investigation is being conducted.
