KARACHI: At least 12 people, including a policeman, sustained injuries in celebratory firing on the eve of Eidul Fitr in different parts of the city, police and rescuers said on Monday.
According to details, four women and two children were also among the wounded persons. The incidents took place in Orangi Town, Bufferzone, Qasba Colony and Gulshan-e-Buner, the police officials said.
In Baldia Sector 5/J, a woman got injured by a blind bullet, whereas, a man sustained injuries inside his house due to firing in Qasba Colony. Meanwhile, two men were also wounded by stray bullets in Landhi and Orani Town.
The injured were transferred to hospitals for medical treatment and investigations were underway, the police officials said.
A day earlier, the police had said that security and other arrangements, including measures against aerial firing, were being made in Karachi ahead of Eidul Fitr.
According to a statement issued by the Karachi police spokesperson, the city’s police chief had constituted a team for monitoring incidents of aerial firing. Authorities had warned violators will be booked under murder charges.
