ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army was mobilised to enforce COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the federal capital on Saturday.
According to sources, army personnel along with the officials of the Islamabad administration visited different areas in the city to enforce the implementation of COVID-19 SOPs.
Sources further said action is being taken against transporters violating COVID-19 SOPs. Secretary Transport Asma Sanaullah along with army personnel raided various bus stands on a tip-off.
Rana Musa Tahir, Assistant Commissioner Islamabad also visited different commercial areas with an army and police escort and took action against violators, sources added.
On this occasion, various sectors in Islamabad have been completely sealed, in view of the increase in COVID-19 cases, sector G9, Sector G8, Sector G13 and Sector G14, have put under partial lockdown.
Sources said the district administration 1097 inspections were carried out today, while 29 shops and one restaurant were sealed for violating COVID-19 SOPs.
Eight people were apprehended for hoarding and violation of SOPs, sources said, adding that fines worth Rs326,000 were imposed for not abiding by safety protocols.
On Friday, PM Imran Khan said he had ordered the Army — as well as police and Rangers — to ensure that SOPs regarding COVID-19 are being strictly implemented.
In a televised address after chairing a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) over COVID-19, the prime minister had urged the masses to adopt preventive measures against COVID-19 so that the situation remains under control and a lockdown of big cities is avoided.
