KARACHI: An anti-riot force comprising 500 personnel of the Sindh Police Security Division and the Special Security Unit (SSU) has been constituted for Karachi to deal with the law and order situation.
A spokesman for the Security Division said the force has been formed on directives from Karachi’s additional inspector general of police and DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Maqsood. the purpose of the squad is to deal with riots and other law and order situations created by miscreants in the city.
The force will is also equipped to assist local police and other law enforcement agencies in emergencies. The decision was made at a meeting presided over by the Additional IGP Karachi Imran Yaqub Minhas and DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Maqsood Ahmed.
DIG Security Maqsood Ahmed said that the anti-riots force, comprising SSU commandos and security division personnel, is equipped with state-of-the-art anti-riots equipment and will remain alert round the clock to respond to any emergency and foiling nefarious plots of miscreants.
SSU Commandant Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui said that the force was fully capable of thwarting the nefarious intentions of miscreants in the city. The force personnel are trained and equipped with the latest equipment.
