MANSEHRA: A 12-day anti-polio campaign will begin in three districts of Kohistan from Monday.
According to the health department, the special anti-polio campaign will begin in Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, and Kolai-Palas districts. The government has ensured a comprehensive security plan for the polio teams.
The data of the provincial health department stated that more than 85,000 children below the age of five will be administered anti-polio drops.

Meanwhile, another three-day polio campaign will begin in Torghar district on Tuesday for administering the vaccine to 14,000 children.
Earlier on Friday, an additional deputy commissioner of Upper Kohistan Sheryar Khan said, “The children in Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, and Kolai-Palas are also at risk of contracting polio, so we’re going to begin a special vaccination drive in these districts for two weeks.”
Sheryar Khan said that the administration was striving to ensure that every child aged five years and below gets anti-polio drops.
Pakistan is one of only 2 remaining countries in the world with ongoing wild poliovirus transmission, along with Afghanistan.
The current polio epidemiology remains promising. The number of cases has declined from 306 in 2014 to 54 in 2015, 20 in 2016, 8 in 2017, and 12 in 2018. So far in 2019, 62 cases have been reported including 46 cases from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5 cases from Punjab, 5 cases from Baluchistan and 6 cases from Sindh province.
