KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi has inaugurated the ‘Let’s Clean Karachi’ campaign, under which he plans to remove garbage from Sindh’s capital.
Speaking to the media outside the KPT Building, the minister said that the campaign would consist of two phases. In the first phase all six big drain Nullahs of the city would be cleaned while in the second phase, garbage will be taken out of the city.
He said, “We will clean Karachi once, after that, it will be the city’s responsibility to maintain it.”
He urged residents of the city to work with them if they aren’t happy with the state of Karachi today. “I have come to you with a begging bowl for Karachi.”
The minister also appealed to contractors to stop leaving construction material outside sites both during and after construction.
His speech was temporarily interrupted by people chanting slogans against him which led him to minimize his speech and leave.
