PPP’s Ali Musa Gillani released a day after arrest in Multan

MULTAN: Former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son, Syed Ali Musa Gillani, has been released a day after he was arrested in Multan.

A special magistrate in Multan granted bail to former PPP lawmaker Ali Musa Gillani and other Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders.

“As I walk out, I truly feel that this night behind bars is a very small price to pay for securing the future of not only our democracy but also for ensuring that we as a people have the right to freely choose our leaders, to voice our opinions to register our protests, to chant our slogans and to chart our own paths to a brighter future,” he said.

Gillani was arrested for violating coronavirus SOPs ahead of the Pakistan Democratic Movement rally in the city on November 30. Police said a case was registered against Gilani and thirty other for holding a rally today despite the ban.

PPP leader Chaudhry Manzoor had said that the police have launched a crackdown against their party workers to stop the rally in Multan. He said Ali Musa Gillani was protesting the arrest of party workers when the police arrested him.

PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had condemned his arrest and said the opposition parties will exercise their democratic right and hold the rally in Multan on November 30.

“They know people stand with democracy, not with the selected government,” said Bilawal in a tweet. “Such tactics will not deter us,” he said vowing to go ahead with the protest which he said was “our democratic right”.
