A large number of students and their parents on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration outside the Aitchison College building in support of Principal Michael A Thomson who had resigned from his post yesterday after developing differences with Punjab governor.
A heavy contingent of police was deployed outside the Aitchison College building to cope with any untoward situation. Policemen have surrounded the building with water cannons and erected barriers for security purposes
The protesters were carrying placards inscribed with slogans in support of the principal. They demanded an end to the political interference in the affairs of the country’s most prestigious educational institution.
Principal of Lahore’s Aitchison College Michael A Thomson resigned from his post after development differences with Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman yesterday (Sunday).
In a goodbye letter to his staff, Principal Michael Thomson wrote that the Governor House’s “partial steps” have ruined the governance at the educational institution. “Amid extreme bad governance I have left no other choice but to leave as destructive changes are being made to the policies just to benefit a few people,” he added.
On the other hand, Governor Punjab and the federal government have rejected the principal allegations.
